It has been over 10 years since 14-year-old Maya and her little brother, Anand were brought to the children’s home in Parshadhap. They came accompanied by a lady from a church from east Nepal who had contacted our staff about bringing them to the home. The lady explained their circumstances to our directors at the time, Arjun and Irish Gurung.
When they finished talking, Irish asked First Love what to do since Maya was older than what we had set as the age at which we wanted to focus upon when accepting children into the home. Maya had been sexually abused while working in a grungy hotel, she had never attended a day of school, and both of her parents were dead. Of course, First Love would take her!
Being so far behind in her education and way too old to start in kindergarten, the principal of the school arranged for Maya to receive individual instruction. She learned to read and write Nepali as well as English and was able to finish class 6. She later moved to the hostel and worked at the beauty parlor where she learned how to do some beauty parlor “stuff”.
In 2018, Maya moved to our children’s home in Bardia to help out and gain some work experience. We were also hoping to find her a husband since that was her wish.
It is common for pastors to work as matchmakers in Nepal. It worked!
Maya and a Juglal Tauru were introduced to one another by a local pastor and it was a match! They talked, got to know each other, and decided that they wanted to get married ASAP!
James and Fanjam provided marriage counseling to the young couple. They also visited with the boy’s family and met with the pastor. The pastor was also present for the marriage counseling sessions.
A date was set, and our little Maya became Mrs. Juglal Tauru on January 17th.
Juglal works as a tailor, and has his own business. In addition to making clothes, he teaches classes in his little shop. One of his students was this pastor’s wife. It was this relationship that brought Maya and Juglal together.
Please pray for these young people as they prepare to spend their lives together. We are happy for both of them.
A wife of noble character, who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
